The research project focuses on innate immune training, in particular on the role of heme in inducing persisting adaptations of myelopoiesis, which alters the host response to and disease course of polymicrobial sepsis. The successful applicant will investigate prevailing phenotypes and the underlying metabolic regulation of heme-induced innate immune training. The project encompasses in vivo and in vitro infections, immunology techniques such as bone marrow transplantations and conventional molecular biology.
